We Bring the Music

Bringing live music to local assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and other care facilities.

Jason Lyman, Bob DuCharme, and Joe Tucker performing at Our Lady of Peace.

Bringing talented musicians to grateful audiences will continue, through the kind support from our donors, including BAMA Works, Twice is Nice, Crutchfield, Better Living, Our Lady of Peace, The Lodge at Old Trail, and private contributors.

“I’ve been performing for seniors since 2010. I’ve always booked my own gigs and performed solo. We Bring The Music helps me feel like I’m not alone or weird for my passion of working with seniors. There have been times where I’ve traveled long distances to perform and not been paid by nursing homes with tight budgets and fluctuating owners. With WBTM, I know I’m going to get paid which brings a great sense of pride and legitimacy to my work. I feel supported.”

SPECIAL SCAM ALERT FOR WE BRING THE MUSIC MUSICIANS: Several musicians mentioned on this website have been approached by someone calling himself "Bruce Gilbert" who wanted to hire people to play at his wedding. The complicated payment details include some people being overpaid and this being fixed by the contacted musicians Venmoing the balance to someone as they wait for their own check. Some musicians have not heard back after requesting more details, so if your receive a similar request (possibly using a name different from “Bruce Gilbert”) be aware that this may be a scam.

As of February 1, 2023, we have changed our name from Nursing Homes Swing to We Bring the Music. Read more about this on our Newsletter page.

Your purchases at Kroger can now help We Bring the Music bring more live music to more nursing homes! See webringthemusic.org/kroger for more details.

We Bring the Music recently received generous grants from Twice is Nice, The Bama Works Fund, Charlottesville's Church of Our Saviour, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and several other donors through the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation.

Our Fundraiser on July 15, 2023 was very fun and very successful! A million thanks to the musicians who participated and to Our Lady of Peace for hosting. See pictures at Scenes from our 2023 fundraiser.

Take a look: at the videos that we have uploaded to the Performance Videos page.  They will give you a good idea what a We Bring the Music event is like.

See this gallery for pictures from our successful benefit at Cville Coffee in 2019.

Also take a look at Music and Memory, a non-profit organization that brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm through digital music technology, vastly improving quality of life. They're doing great work that has a lot in common with We Bring the Music.

We hope that you will consider giving some of your time to We Bring the Music and enjoy the live music at the same time that you help others to do so. The small staff of people who arrange the We Bring the Music performances could use some help making these concerts go smoothly. If you can show up a little early to one or two of the performances each month, check with the nursing home's activity director to ensure that the residents know about and attend the concert, and take a head count, you can then sit with the residents to enjoy the music knowing that your efforts made it all the more enjoyable for the residents, the staff, and the musicians. Contact us for more information about volunteering.

Musicians: Update or include your information for the Musician Listings. We send periodic reminders to the activities directors of the nursing homes that musicians are listed on our website so that they can contact them directly when they need music for additional events. Fees are negotiated directly with the musicians.  This has worked well for some of the musicians with several events being arranged in the past few months. We look forward to the list being a good resource for other venues—restaurants, wineries, etc.—as soon as we get the word out. If you want to send  your information, we'll be happy to post it to the site.

Your tax-deductible donation to We Bring the Music will help us pay the musicians who bring their talents to brighten the lives of care facility residents.
